The Food Bank and Tradebe together with a zero waste objective
Tradebe Global

Tradebe and the Banc dels Aliments have set themselves the objective of minimising food wastage by signing a mutual collaboration agreement and joining forces to achieve this goal.

Unsalable and inedible food is food which is unfit for human consumption and cannot be sold. Examples are pulses which have gone rotten after being kept in damp conditions or products which for various reasons have had a break in the cold chain, etc.

This agreement is intended to provide a socially responsible destination for unsalable and inedible food, giving it a second, useful life and returning some of it to the Banc dels Aliments in the form of raw material. This food is removed from the food chain and is then used to produce organic compost.
The compost obtained from recycling this inedible food will be used to fertilise fields to produce primary materials such as flour. A proportion of these crops will be handed over to the Banc dels Aliments for them to manage distribution.
